Morning, So i broke down over the weekend and bought me the Kropserkel biker scout helmet kit. So....in a month or so i'll be getting my first project ^_^.

Before i get started on the bucket, does anyone have any pointers in regards to the build? Any extra materials i should plan on getting beforehand?

Thanks all, looking forward to trooping.

Yay! More scouts for the scout army! Muahahaha!

First off you'll want to go to an armor party, it's a great place to get help and/or socialize (believe me you probably don't want to try this on your own if you new to costuming). You'll probably want some e-6000 which you can get at walmart for five bucks, duct tape, and some padding for the inside of your helmet(eggshell foam pads, or memory foam if you want to drop some extra cash, etc). You'll also want visor material, a bunch of us use a dark welders mask stuff. You can get it at automotive stores (if I remember correctly) but ask around first cause some of the guys have extra laying around you could probably get off them. NOTE: Do NOT use the visor that comes with the kit, it's too light and you can see your eyes through it!

I'll let the other scouts and more knowledgeable people chime in for more info or if I forgot something, but that hopefully gives you a place to start. :D

Have fun and good luck on your build! :scout:

Yeah Britt, we needed to have your slot in the garrison scout army filled since you left it

All that is great info. Plus at armor parties there will be tools if you don't have any. The only other input I have is about the visor. The visor that came with mine was possibly the exact same as the replacement material I got so I ended up with two visors. Tested both and in various lighting it was not see through. It might just vary from batch to batch with what they send out. So yeah, I'd see what it comes with first...though having an extra isn't a bad thing. It's not like the material costs much or anything :)

My KS kit also had a visor that was dark enough to use but I liked using the Welders shield instead. The visor that comes in the kit, or at least mine was this way, was rather rigid and in order to bend and shape it so that it will fit in the helmet properly you have to use a heat gun to soften it up to make it fit. (oh and I broke mine in half :D by accident)

I used my visor from the kit as a template though and traced it onto the welders mask then cut out and used the welders mask.

Glad to see more Scouts! If you have other questions please feel free to ask!! :scout:

Here's a walk through for assembly that I found digging about online:
http://kimncris.com/tutorials/scouthelmet.php
It seems to be a pretty good one. Not exactly screen actuate, but will make a good trooping helmet.
Also feel free to use your own ideas, as it is your helmet.
Another good tip is get a many reference pics as you can. It helps in getting the over all look right as you assemble your helmet.
You will want some masking tape to tape the helmet together as you work on trimming and fitting the pieces. Emery boards make good sanding tools for some of the smaller areas. The other things mention are good too.
Remember to have fun and take your time.

Not sure when the next armor party will be, but the date and details will be posted on the garrison boards when it is set up.

I am trying to get an armor party set up in Utah county, Orem, very soon. Not sure of dates just yet, but what days and times are good for you?

Saturdays, i am pretty much open all day. Weekdays would be after 6 pm, as i work in downtown SLC and get off at 4. Sundays are hit and miss just depending if we've got any family dinners etc.

So say we all.

So Good news, my helmet kit shipped yesterday. Should be getting it in the next week. So i'll have this weekend to look at all the pieces and study it to see what i need to do.

Which means i am totally ready for an armor party in the near future. Anyone thinking of putting one together?

Well since you should get your kit next week how about the week of September 10th? You said after 6pm, I am thinking any day that week except Friday, so the 10th, 11th, 12th or 13th of September?

If so I will see what I can do about the location, just need to make a call.
