I know this is rebel talk on an imperial forum (gasp!) but I'm pretty sure none of you could take me, so I'm going to say whatever I darn well please. The reason behind having the discussion here as apposed to the RL boards is that it affects the Alpine Garrison more so than the entire Mountain Base. Plus, the members in Utah are also members here, and these boards get checked more often than the RL ones away (thanks to Mike Handy for making/hosting an awesome website!). This is for all Alpine Garrison members who are past/present/future Rebel Legion members. We'd like to break off from the Mountain Base so we can have a bit more control over our events (and for those of you who care, credit). In Utah alone, we've met the requirement of at least 15 members. For the new geographic borders, Utah is definitely going to be separating from the Mountain Base. We're also extending an invitation to the Rebel Legion members in the Timberline Garrison to join us. We've worked well with each other all these years, I don't see why we should change something that has worked well. The primary reason for separating from the Mountain Base is purely geographic. Simply put, we're too spread out from the other members to be effective. As stated earlier, we're already capable of working as a group. This thread will be dedicated solely to RL members (past/present/future) in the garrison who want to vote and give input on the decisions that will affect the new base. DEADLINE FOR DISCUSSION IS JUNE 17th at Midnight! After that, a poll will be set up to vote on the top 3 choices in each categories. DEADLINE FOR POLL VOTING IS JUNE 20th at Midnight! At this point, the decisions made will be submitted with our application to the RL Command. These decisions are by Majority rule (even if that means by 1 person). These decision include: ~Base Boundaries ~Base Name ~Base Logo ~Base Commanding Officer and any other possible officer stations The base logo can wait until after the base has been approved. The other three categories must be included in the application. With that being said, the discussion is now being launched (I will update this first post as information comes in): BASE BOUNDARIESThe States of Utah, Idaho, and Montana BASE NAMEAlpine Base (6x) Geonosis Base (3x) Rogue Base (15x) Bantha Base CenterPoint Station Bonneville Base (3x) Timpanogos Base Wasatch Base Lake Anre Base (3x) Thyferra Base Borleias Base Malastare Base Mimban Base Ord Mantell Base Cloud City Base Sanctuary Moon Base Balmorra Base Sulon Base Barkhesh Base BASE OFFICERSJakob Tice (7x) CO Shane Gordon (2x) CO Margaret Cluff CO (2x), XO (7x) Mike Handy (4x) Webmaster/Liason

I propose the base name be The Alpine Base. This is to give credit where credit is due. It think it is safe to say that without the Alpine Garrison the level of organization and professionalism of the garrison members who are also members of the Rebel Legion would be much less than what it is now. In addition, from a geographic perspective, it will be easier for us to identify current and potential members. the 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion are considered Sister Organizations and this name, Alpine Base, I feel will help unify it.
As for the boundaries, I say Utah definitely. If Idaho and/or Montana would like to join us, I'd be the first to welcome them.

I say let's go for it. We also have several new RL members in the works out here, so having more local leadership will really benefit them as well. I'm fine with either keeping this in just UT or adding the Timberline members. I also like using Alpine Base as a name, it means people trying to find us don't have to remember something obscure and it's a good symbol of the camaraderie that exists between the two groups out here.
Wanna bet?

I'd be happy to have it be Utah/ID for the boarders. In looking at the RL lists, and having discussed this with others, I didn't see the total of 15 in Utah alone among active members but could have missed some. If we got the various clones in the Alpine to join the RL we'd have several more as well.

I am for this as well. In my opinion, the Rebel Legion around here suffers not only from a geographic disadvantage, but from a leadership disadvantage as well. This is an opportunity to correct both. Also, this gives me incentive to begin my Dash Rendar costume.

I am so very close to submitting several costumes, and my husband is weeks away from his being ready too
I'd love for us to have a base out here. The current base leadership doesn't seem to have any desire to do events out here or really include us in theirs.

I 3rd the name "Alpine Base". Goes along quite well with what we're already doing.
The boarders of Utah are great and if Idaho wants to join in, I'd love them to!
As for CO, I vote Jakob. He's taking the lead on this venture. He's been with the RL for quite a while now and knows his way around. For XO, I vote Margaret.

Alpine base is a good name. Its easy to associate with the garrison, and will help promote keeping the two in close contact. It will allow us to better coordinate events together, and create a stronger unified star wars 'team'.
Utah seems like a good starting point, and including Timberline if they are interested would be great. Eventually, In my opinion, it would be nice to see each state have its own functioning leadership and base, but for the time being, provided they could operate well out of a utah based leadership, the more the merrier.

Laurissa is now approved, which adds another one to our numbers. And I would agree with nominating Jakob as CO. Thanks for the nomination, Melissa.

I'll have a "RL" costume within weeks and have toyed with the idea of submitting it.

I'm not in the RL and probably never will be, but since this is on AG's forums I figured I'd speak up. I would rather see another name chosen.
I personally have a problem with the "Alpine Base" name for 2 main reasons:
1) If either the 501st or RL chapter in this area makes a MAJOR mistake it's going to very directly affect the other. Alpine Base and Alpine Garrison are too much a like and the average person doesn't know Darth Vader from a Novatrooper.
2) You're bound to always be placing "Alpine Base" into Alpine Garrison's shadow. This is a new venture, and though any of the same people are in it, the RL is not the 501st and vice versa. Shouldn't you breathe it's own life into it, instead of appearing to create something that rides on the success of a recognizable name built by AG over the years?
Those may see a little harsh, but I think some serious thought should be put into the presentation of the name and how it will effect group dynamics. I will admit that I am also very protective of the garrison and the reputation that we all have worked hard to build.

I also am not yet in RL it is however the intentions for both Andrea and I to eventually play on both sides of the force. I can see the great potential for Alpine Base as it is a great way to build with what organization we already have, but much like izzi voice caution. I have been involved with Alpine for several years and can see the potential of great disaster if one side or the other were to misstep.
I was going through my mind all of the planet's in the star wars universe that could potentially coincide with Utah and possibly Idaho. We have Goblin Valley something very unique to Utah and at least to me remincient of Geonosis. Perhaps Geonosis Base.
Maybe a planet that has large lakes (like the great salt lake?).
A Pod Racing mecca, much like the salt flats.
Even the idea of Center Point Station as we are the crossroads of the west much like the station is the crossroads of the galaxy.
For me I want something star wars universe that screams Utah.
I do not know a ton about either suggested candidate for base leadership, but I know that you are both strong willed and organized and would make awesome leadership for our new base. I 2nd or 3rd or 4th both of you (not sure how many supporting votes have been voiced yet), and look forward to this exciting new chapter as it unfolds for Utah and potentially Idaho.
We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

I think Izzi brings up some valid points. I'm new to the garrison as is, so forgive me if I am speaking out of turn, but here are my thoughts. Are there many/any active Rebel Legion members in the proposed boundaries that are not active within the Garrison? I understand completely the need to protect the good name of the garrison, but my thoughts are this. If the new RL chapter is founded mostly around members who are already active within the garrison, why not 'tie' them together by name? True, this has the potential to allow one group to tarnish the name of another, but it also gives the chance to promote great synergy. Our garrison and the new legion will likely share many members and close relations. Events can be planned together. The officers of each could meet occasionally to discuss matters. I agree that each needs to be its separate and own entity, and we do not want one to shadow the other, but to me I see great potential for a highly fused group. We have a strong garrison here, and have the potential to have a strong Rebel legion presence as well. Also, this is me thinking logically and perhaps I'm all wrong, but the new Legion is going to need a bit of time to get going, get members, get organized, etc. If most of the members are already going to be part of the garrison, wouldn't it make sense to 'wean' it off of the garrison slowly until it can stand on its own two feet? This is careful ground to tread as we want to avoid absorbing it, but if it does not have some sort of support, well, it barely has the 15 members, and from my understanding not all are active. It could use a little help at the get-go. I feel like I've ranted enough. Essentially, my argument is this. We have a wonderful garrison. I see a potential to have a wonderful sister group in the Rebel Legion. I think we could have terrific synergy, could create some great mixes of light and dark side at events, and really show the world just how well the two groups can work together. I sound a bit like an idealist, but you've gotta dream right? Anyone is free to smack me down if I sound completely ridiculous or like an idiot. Done ranting now.
